If men can do it, SO AS WOMEN!
Being a feminist simply means believing in equal rights for all genders. It’s not about hating men. It’s not about women being better than men. It’s not about eschewing femininity. We exist to advance and protect the rights of diverse women and girls. Our vision is gender equality for all, and we’re working towards this through our program partnerships; movement building d research, policy, and advocacy, and the world. Feminism means a million things to a million people. We’re not in the business of defining the exact terms of anyone else’s feminism, but we do want to clarify the basics. It isn’t about creating a sliding scale of who is worse off – it’s about learning and understanding the ways that inequality affects women and men, and remembering that we’re all in this together. True equality leaves no one behind. We don’t claim to be authorities on anyone else’s feminism, but to us, acknowledging how different forms of discrimination intersect with and amplify gender-based discrimination is a critical way to ensure all women reap the benefits of women’s rights
Let’s consider why this is important. Studies have shown that women have higher levels of emotional intelligence and empathy. According to Korn Ferry research of over 55,000 professionals, women outperformed men in the categories of “coaching & mentoring, influence, inspirational leadership, conflict management, organizational awareness, adaptability, teamwork and achievement orientation” in addition to social and emotional intelligence. Although the gender-gap conversation has gained attention, the real-time data serves as a reminder that even though we have come a long way, there is still a lot that needs to change. As per the 2018 Fortune list, only 24 women (4.8%) were CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. Per the latest 2019 Fortune list, the number of women in these roles has jumped to 33 women (6.6%). Despite the subtle progress, many women still find themselves in boardrooms full of men. I believe that there’s something about this market and moment in time that is ideal for women leaders -- we can be creative, visionary and rebellious, all at the same time. Our skills in emotional intelligence and empathy are needed in business today, as are diverse perspectives. I’m hopeful that a leadership transformation will soon take place to further close the gender gap.
